Now, before the end of the season, a piece of good news came along for one of the voice over actors of the show. It has been reported that singer and actor, Scott Grimes, who lends his voice to the character of Steve Smith on American Dad, has been offered to star in a period film based on the adventures of the legendary hero Robin Hood. The star, who was seen earlier in movies like Alaska and both the Critters movies, has been chosen for the movie along with Kevin Durand and Alan Doyle. According to reports, Grimes is to play the role of Robin’s nephew Will Scarlet, who is a skilled swordsman. The movie which was initially named Nottingham has been renamed as Robin Hood, and will feature Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett as Robin Hood and Maid Marian respectively. This is the first time that Scott will be working with Russell and reportedly, he is quite excited about the project.

We have all experienced, Scott’s powerful voice acting talent on American Dad. He has used his flexible voice quite efficiently to bring out the various emotions that Steve faces at a given moment. Seth MacFarlane likes to identify himself as a fan of science fiction, be it in the form of Star Wars or Star Trek. Besides being a great comedian, Seth is an accomplished pianist and singer. He is an atheist and a supporter of gay rights and gay marriage. During the WGA strike in 2007-2008, he publicly supported and fully participated in the strike.

He is also a frequent guest speaker on various college campuses. A little known fact about this creative genius is that, he narrowly escaped boarding the American Airlines Flight 11, from Boston to Massachusetts, which was later hijacked and flown into the North Tower of the World Trade Center, on September 11, 2001.

However, Seth does not think much of this close call with death, as he feels that there are many close calls in everyday life, and one can even narrowly escape being hit by an oncoming vehicle, while crossing the street. He feels that, such incidents should not affect him, as he is a comedy writer and needs to put all this behind him, to bring out his creative best. Also Seth is a supporter of the Democratic Party and has donated $10,000 for U.S. President Barack Obama’s election campaign, besides speaking in his favor at a rally during the 2008 elections.

I have loved American Dad from the day it started airing. It is funny, it is stupid, its loveable and most of all it is animated. Personally, I feel that even though creating an animated series requires much more hard work and time than a normal series, it is much better in that the creator can present his characters exactly in the same way in which they were perceived.

Although the advances made in the makeup and styling has helped in creating a character as close to the creator’s imagination as possible, still there are some aspects which you can cover only for an animated character. An example of this is the talking goldfish Klaus or the alien Roger in American Dad. I know that we can create these characters in live series as well but I feel that the natural feel that they provide in an animated series, cannot be achieved in the live series.

I have always loved animations as I feel that they are the best way to relax and personally I reconnect with the happy memories of my childhood, whenever I watch an animated series. This helps in easing out all my tensions and worries and I feel actually stress free for some time. Since its premiere in 2005, American Dad has many times been compared with Family Guy. Some people even went to the extent of saying that American Dad has been inspired rather copied from Family Guy. I think it would be better to reschedule the timing of one of the two shows, so that people get a break between the two shows. Only then they will they be able to appreciate the individuality of each show

The creator of American Dad, Seth MacFarlane, has joined hands with Google to create a new show, which will contain a series of short cartoons. It seems that MacFarlane, who started with the cartoon series, Family Guy and then moved on make American Dad, is in the process of building his animation empire and has therefore joined forces with one of the strongest companies of USA.
